October 2020
Hello everyone from the Secretary’s Desk
Spring has sprung and some days the temperatures feel
and are like summer so the committee is in planning
mode in relation to constant and reliable water supply
for the greens and the course at large.
Committee Snippets
The club’s golfing programme is finding its feet again
after the disruption that COVID caused. Our Annual
fundraising Sponsored Tournament (usually held in
March) is planned for 15th November. We are looking
for donations for prizes (something you would like to win
yourself) and there is still room for sponsorship in the
three areas of Bronze, Silver and Gold Categories.
Green Fee Vouchers are given to donors and
advertising on course on the day will be in place. Whilst
we acknowledge that many businesses, families and
individuals have suffered in a variety of ways through
COVID, should you know of businesses (or individuals)
that would like to give a donation to our club it would be
very much appreciated. These funds contribute to the
ongoing maintenance and improvements around the
course.
We would like to thank the sponsors who committed in
Feb/Mar leaving their paid donation with the club or
have honoured their committent through COVID and will
donate closer to the event.
The club wishes to sincerely thank Lyttelton Port
Company (LPC) for what will become their annual
donation to the golf club. This year $1000.00.
Pest control on Banks Peninsula has been expanded
with our club becoming involved. Through the
leadership of Brian Boyes, members have been able to
purchase traps for mice/rats, ferrets, opossums,
weasels /stoats. A monthly ‘catch report’ is posted in the
club rooms.
Twilight is on again since 30th September and you may
have read the format on facebook or via email. We are
pleased to have new leadership with this event and with
John Schurink at the helm you’re in for another great
season. “Take Time to play 9”.......why don’t you. For
members and green fee players alike Tee off time
between 4 and 5pm Wednesday evenings.
This year the AGM and prize giving will be combined.
Formal notice will be sent out however diary the date as
5th December with time to be confirmed. Included in the
nominations this AGM will be a new Patron as we
acknowledged the passing of Bruce Ryde earlier this
year.
Engraving of trophies: Would those who won trophies
last year please return them to the club in
the shiny condition they were received by the end of
October so engraving can be completed in time for the
prize giving.
Volunteers – WOW what work you continue to do and
we are so proud of the work that you do regularly and
quietly in the background. The gardens and area
around the club house have taken on a totally new look,
the new bridge is open for use, the public toilets now
safe to enter and totally refurbished along with with paint
inside and out, the machinery(mowers especially) keep
going and going. Volunteers, too many to mention – a
BIG thank you from the committee. Added to which the
workshop will look different going forward as a long
awaited extension is in the planning. Thanks to a
donation that has been tagged for this build.
COVID 19
Level 1 has arrived again, so for most of us it is almost
business as usual with the precautions of social
distancing in largely populated areas and healthy
sanitation practices. Golf NZ continues to keep clubs up
with the play on safe practices through each level.

The club receives bookings for events that are not
planned by our club however the course continues to
attract players and groups. Our green Fee player
income is well up on previous year added to which
groups of 25 + have booked our course. At times there
maybe tensions with club play days however we aim to
accommodate as many as we can.
